Tidal Mills

It looks like the next map has some oceanic spots, or at the very least, it looks like the areas would have waves. Which is why I propose using them waves to power two new buildings.

Saw Mill: There would need be a way to drop a log into this building, and one could return later on to find some perfectly sawed boards, in a quantity greater than what a metal saw could provide. It'd be like, a big wooden building with a goofy animation of a saw attached to a horizontal scissor lift, going back and forth over these logs.

Grain Mill: Pretty much the same as above, but this one would take twice as long as hand grinding grain, but would produce a much finer flour. Naturally, this would lead to a higher quality baked good.

Would not both the saw mill and the grain mill use the flow from rivers to power them then say the waves of the sea? Either way its sounds like a capital idea on one of the uses of rivers other than a medium of transport for the next map reset :D

Tidal energy? You are slightly overshooting, aren't you? Harnessing wind and water energy should be done sooner or later, but it is high-tech-ish and will probably need a while till it gets implemented.

Windmills date back to the 9th century, and watermills, I am fairly sure, to BC. TIDAL energy is a bit high-tech, but wind and water mills are fully in character.
The idea of having production become more efficient with higher technology is also already a theme; look at the bone and metal saws for an example.
I support this.

This, and DOGS!!!!

At first glance I rejected harnessing of tidal power on the grounds of being anachronistic in the era depicted in H&H (whatever era it may be), and thought the idea would be better used with rivers/water wheels and wind mills. On a second search on the net, I found this rather interesting article.

One should also be able to drop a log in a river and have it float down stream, with people at the other end ready to catch the logs, you could cut forest up stream and have a nice supply of wood. Though I think many things should be done before things like this get into place.

Only problem is everyone will be crowding the rivers for food and high QL wood goods

And barrels. I want to float barrels down rivers with dwarves in them. :)

That's a problem? Rivers are prime building territory.

Sounds right to me. Thats exactly why most historical major cities were on major waterways. Transportation, food, hygiene, all in one little riverbed.

Encouraging people to settle near rivers will be great once trade gets going for real. Building a town in estuary could be a great way to make money by mediating between hinterland and overseas.
