Hornet nests

Postby Flyffywambler » Mon Apr 04, 2011 9:22 pm

Here's another one from the murky depths of my imagination.

The hornet's nest. It appears in/on fruit trees.
Basically, a more dangerous version of the ant's nest.
Instead of peaceful ants, that will only attack you when you raid the nest, hornet's nest are patrolled actively. 3 hornets fly about it, like ants would around their nest, but the hornets will attack anyone who comes too close. RUN NOOBS, RUN!

Furthermore, when you opt to raid the nest, additional hornets will spawn from it to attack you.

My idea of their moves and attacks:

buzz (move)
cost: free
drains 1 IP from the player, hornet gains 2 IP, hornet gains +1 advantage
combat intensity +2

spray poison (move)
cost: 2 IP
drains all of the player's offense and defense

Bite (attack)
cost: 1 IP, needs combat intensity <5
does quite a bit more damage than an ant's attack.
should be capable of hurting a relatively high level player, at least with full advantage
combat intensity +1

Sting (attack)
cost: free, needs combat intensity >5
Does similar damage as Bite
Resets combat intensity. Hornet gains IP equal to the intensity reduced

And yes, there is a real hornet species that is able to shoot it's poison towards is foe, from the air.

Raiding the nest could yield the following curios:
hornet's nest
hornet larvae
hornet queen

OP, imo
Just how they rank with the other animals? Better than auroch?

I have to agree they're a bit overpowered...

Also, if you have no bare skin and additionally wear some sort of beekeeper-hat thingie you can ward of all damage from them.

That thing would mop the flour with a pack of trolls.

Eh. The flour doesn't need mopping up; it just disappears when it's dropped, after all.

Those moves are horrible. You do not know anything about combat.

I suggest Spray Poison be replaced with an animal version of Seize the Day, which in groups will make them already appropriately nasty.

It would need a different approach then ordinary combat.

But I think with clever use of Fan the flames / Consume the flames, DoG, and Sting like a bee you'd be able to beat them, if your base UA is high enough to one-hit them, and to gain decent IP when using DoG.

I say UA, because seriously, have you ever tried hitting a wasp with a sword? Would be hilarious.
Using punches would lessen the effect of their IP drain attack as well.

However, because it's a lot of them, they might be overpowered. Dunno, that could be.
If they are too much like this, then I agree they need a nerf.
Basically, I just want them to be able to pose a threat to higher-level players.

Unless the cooldown for Spray Poison is like 15RL minutes, no, you couldn't beat them. Sure, you might one hit one, but you'll never get any defence and offence after that, and will die a horrible death.

Hornets aren't all that badass IRL, I've taken out their nests with a blowtorch.
