Let's do some math...

Postby Peter » Tue Sep 08, 2009 11:47 pm

My character is 20 days old, or 480 hours. I have earned a total of 133887 LP. That gives me a rate of just under 280 LP per hour. Note that some of that was with full change, while I am now at 90% tradition.

At that rate, it will take me 703 hours to gain the 53 additional levels of exploration I need to start finding useful amounts of plants. I play about an hour a day at very most, and more likely half an hour. For the sake of this exercise, 45 minutes. At that rate, it will take me 2.63 YEARS of playing before I reach that goal, assuming I never buy any other skills.
And further assuming that I never, ever, die.

This is, of course, not very useful data. We need more data points, so please share your main character's age and total LP value so that a better statistic may be constructed.

Looking at my data, if we assume that I am only capable of 1/10th of the LP generation of a high level player with, say, 6 level 300 skills, they have spent 26 years of 1 hour a day gaming. I'm pretty sure that H&H is less than two decades old, right?
Surprise.

LP gain is not linear.

It is currently very easy to kill bears, and even with the bugs fixed getting the equipment and skills wouldn't take that long, especially in a good community. Also, thankfully LP is not shared by combatants (which is awesome, please don't ever change this J&L!).

sadly the only reasonable methods of collecting LP in this game involve either macroing or high level hunting :|

in most games devs go the halfassed route of only discouraging macros, rather than actually encouraging gameplay by making playing more efficient for LP gain. hopefully we'll see the latter here

So true. It would be nice if people who weren't hunters could compete. I really like the nature side of the game, and like to do that rather than hunt.

Yep. Hunting. Which requires very high levels.
So you need to macro. Fine, if that's what it takes to play this game as it apparently was meant to be played.

I agree that the nature gameplay is actually much better than the combat. It's too bad that it seems to be totally worthless.

Sabinati: So, you get 18,000 LP an hour? How? I'm pretty sure the Claim exploit got fixed...

So low level characters earn 100 LP an hour, I earn 2000 LP, mediums earn what, 5000 LP? And Highs enter the 10,000+ range...

This entire topic will be a testiment to why linear progression is a peice of shit that should just stay with pen and paper RPGs. Also, as a frame of reference in physical actions, removing a stump results in 62 XP. Take the experience it takes to get to a skill level, and divide by 62. That's how many stumps you would've chopped to get there.
The Dwarf is making a plaintive gesture. He doesn't really care about anything any more.

Well, very few RPGs have linear progression anyway, including DnD.

Why not make it so that crafting better items gives you more LP?

Level 7-8 foxes are 1000 lp each at full change. Imagine that with bears.

Still, I completely agree. LP reworking should be one of the main priorities, now that all the new fancy stuff is done.

Wait, if you are at 90% tradition, of course your progress will be slow. That is ...kinda the point of tradition, I thought. You are safe from death, mostly, but in a sort of stasis...
That said, I agree with most of the other posts about hunting lp gain vs other types...there is just no comparison.
