Waterskins.

Postby Wolfram » Thu Sep 10, 2009 9:31 pm

Right now, you can make a waterskin from an entire hide (four pieces of leather, in other words) and get a 3.0L container of water that takes up two inventory cells. However, you could make two waterflasks for half the leather and for the same inventory space, but get an extra liter of water. To add incentive to the skin, why not make it equippable? The belt slot or one of the spare trinket slots would be sensible choices - I tried to do this as soon as I made one instinctively.

You mean they DON'T work like that? Huh. I was kinda assuming they did.
Surprise.

Well since I made a water skin from a dried fox hide the other day, I believe that they can be made from any dried hide.
And considering that the domestic animals(Cows, Sheep) are rare now, not many newer players will be able to get a normal 2x2 hide. Meaning their only alternative for the hides or leather would be rabbit fur. So for a newbie, they might be a little better.

Sheep are 1x2
Deer and Boars are 2x2

I encouraged this post in IRC, and have since thought about it some more

1 - Ability to make waterskin from rabbit hide is probably a bug.
2 - Dried skin/hide is quicker to manufacture than leather, even with the cart bug.

I still think a single water skin should hold more water than multiple flasks occupying the same inventory space.

It's a matter of balance. If skins were both easier to make and better, there'd be no point in flasks. Maybe if flasks were equippable. It makes more sense for a flask to be equippable than it does for a skin, I think.

bigger doesn't always equate to better... a single flask is smaller than a skin and still holds a more useful amount of water than a cup.

I agree with the statement that they are more or less redundant. Though easier to make than a flask, it's only one extra step. There's not much reason to bother with them, unless you really have no other option and need a way of carrying water right at that moment.

+1 for equipping waterskins.

I also wanted to know why I can't drink from a bucket? It has the exact same dynamics as the others yet I can't drink from it.
Even then, I should still be able to fill my waterskin from it.
