Shutting down the Stupid Alt Claims.

Postby Nanoth » Mon May 16, 2011 10:24 am

I just rejoined the world and came off a boat in a place I thought was safe, turns out someone had built a Claim in the middle of nowhere (most likely on a HQ Node of something) and it covered something close to a Village initial claim to even double that. And as far as I can tell, was done with the least amount of effort via abusing the Curo's Offline Study.
Clearly someone has fed an Alt with too much Intel foods, crammed a million and one long Study high LP gain curos on it then returned to their main. Coming back to that alt to put more Curos on it and learning the skills for Yeo. This is a bit stupid to the major point of annoyance that anyone could do this, you don't even need to PLAY that alt like you did when the game gave LP for doing stuff...

My thoughts would be to bring back the Claim Degradation that was used for the Villages before Curos were brought in, make it so that when you do something you gain 'Claim Points' which replenish a meter. It can be used for Villages as well by using the same method as before. Do something to fill the meter, if not it drops down to the point that a Claim stake or Village idol can become Destroyable or just falls apart...

This means that if you want to keep that Large area of Clay/Soil/Mine/Water ETC Safe, MOVE THERE AND PLAY THERE. This should not be a game of Idle to be rich...

Or they could just kill you if they find you on their node, without you knowing it was their node.

Offline curio study isn't abuse. While I agree that large, meaningless alt claims are a nuisance and need something done about them, this is hardly anything new to the curiosity system. Villages still have authority and degrade if members do not earn lp. Claim degradation to some degree would be good but how does your solution prevent it in any way, shape, or form? If they had the spare curiosities (Because who doesn't) to feed the alt in the first place, why can't they log on for two minutes a week to feed their alt new curiosities to maintain the large claim? Or just have the alt found a village and maintain that if personal claims get too complicated. All they need to do is keep authority above 50,000 and that's childs play even for a brand new alt or two.

Because if you actually read my post...

Two points, one which I already went over and one which I have not. The first, that system is still in place exactly as it was in prior worlds. You have authority drain just like always and have to earn lp to regain authority.

Second, the old lp gaining system isn't coming back. Ever. Don't waste your breath asking for it back as we're all sick of people whining for it and the Devs aren't going to go back to that train wreck.

Sigh You clearly didn't read my Post. I will explain it more simply...

Claim Stakes also lose 'Authority' you gain it back by gaining 'Claim Points' CP which act like the LP of old. You need to be playing to earn a constant regen of the Claim's Auhority much akin to how it appeared on the Village Claim before Curos...

That is actually exactly what I read and responded to though? You're asking for a reimplementation of the old system put back into an aspect of the game.

Sigh...

LP : Learning Points, Gained through Curos to learn skills and upgrade other such things...
CP : Claim Points, Gained by doing stuff akin to LP of old, used to keep your Claim from Degrading...

I was NEVER asking for LP of old, I was asking for something LIKE old for a HORSE OF A DIFFERENT COLOUR...

If such is the case, then I will reiterate

Skirting that and saying that even villages should implement your system. How do you propose it works and is genuinely meaningful? Immediately it becomes a mandatory play time to maintain a claim, which is your goal anyway, but at some point you're forcing people to play hours a day doing, often, meaningless labor to maintain a claim. In many cases, these claim alts are often used as farmers, miners, or murder alts anyway but lets go ahead and assume that they're absolutely not and just there for the claim.

What constitutes meaningful labor? Even main characters don't spend 3 hours a day farming. Is it necessary to set up a bot to lay stone for a couple hours every day while I sleep? Because let me tell you right now, digbots really aren't hard to make. While four hours of intensive in-game labor is realistic early on when you're establishing yourself, a well established home or village should run like a machine; requiring only minimal labor and play time to get maximum profit. These arbitrary tasks and time requirements to build lp were why the old system was removed. Attaching the old system to the new world with a new name doesn't change its effects or meaning.
