So much fun! Right?

Postby Pioneer » Mon Sep 21, 2009 12:15 pm

The game is great. Combat is fun. Farming is fun. The LP system is fun. Player interaction is fun. There's so many things to do in this game that you're almost never idle. Every day you look forward to logging in to H&H because you have NOTHING better to do in this shitty real life we live in.

Then one night you begin crossing a river and notice that you forgot to drink your water.. and you notice this halfway across. You try to make it back and, well, too bad so sad! Oh what's that? You were full change?
Suddenly your heart sinks as you realize that the weeks upon weeks you spent building your character up for higher levels of gameplay have been completely flushed down the toilet. There's nothing left for you, reincarnating is a laughable notion at this point because it's not going to get your weeks of devotion back. Everything you've built and designed is completely forfeit. After being slain unjustly in the old world and feeling the dire effects of death, I get to feel it all again because of a poorly planned river crossing. But this time I'm not coming back because I'm sick and tired of starting over from stat 1.

Thanks for introducing a swimming skill without fixing the death penalty issue beforehand.

Death; it's not a penalty, it's a feature. Also, for some strange reason, if you reincarnate a full change character, you still seem to get a SMALL bit of points back. I did this after being the first one to die from swimming. My character had 80 Str, and full change. I chose to reincarnate him and my new character had 13 str.

That's because of your beliefs.

I had the constitution to cross the river, the reason I died was because of a slight distraction which made me forget to drink. Blow it out your ass you pompous fuck.

While I feel sorry for your loss, I would like to remind you that there's a reason why we call Haven an Alpha. While under development like this, it won't always have the features one would, under less alpha-y conditions, consider dependent on each other. Yet we do want to try out these more dangerous features to see how they interact with the rest of the game environment.

Bummer. Pay attention next time.

Mistakes happen, and some mistakes cost more than others. Bet you won't forget to check your stamina next time.

it's like J&L thought this game didn't have enough pointless deaths in this game already

it's even better since there's permadeath and incredibly easy ways to accidently get yourself killed

how 2 not drown 4 dumeez: Don't learn to swim.

Quite frankly, I'm not going to learn swimming even after the swimming toggle is made. You get the perfectly logical idea to cross a river instead of spending 20 minutes to go around it; then suddenly get your connection yanked out from under you.
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

Waiting for boats is still a good idea!
