Night/Day slider

Postby miraclew » Thu Nov 03, 2011 10:55 pm

Does anyone commit to one of these extremes, or are you like me and barely ever touch it?

Maybe if I happen to be low on health and it's night I'll slide it over once and then back to neutral later, but it isn't really a major decision as it doesn't affect how I play my character. I think the general concept of it is very neat, in that you could have some bonuses depending on whether it is night or day, but the health regen feels a bit too weak of a bonus to me.

Maybe a perception increase during the day, with a decrease at night (or vice versa), would enable people to specialize at hunting and foraging in either night or day. Or perhaps an increase/decrease in stamina consumption, so you can get more work done or run away/chase people down better (or even swim if that's your thing). I'd like to see this slider matter more than it does now, and make me care about whether it is day or night (if I choose to, of course).

In world 5 I went full day and it seemed to be well worth it but I was almost never attacked to really test it out.

However it isn't used by many, but the day/night cycle is good for using No Pain No Gain to drain hunger. More hp regen = more shp regenerated = more hunger lost. Asides from that, I agree it needs a revamp to be significant.

If the server stayed on a steady schedule, it would be significant as most people would likely be on during the day or night for the majority of their play time.

(maybe off topic but since this is about sliders I'll say what I think)

when I look at sliders I always think about everyone switching to peaceful for the bonus, then some getting rage and murder...some sliders have no use at all and some should have penalties that they don't. if you're peaceful you shouldn't be able to attack other players(aggressively, still able to defend) I look at the skills list and it just pops in my head you shouldn't be able to get/use rage unless your slider is neutral and murder unless you're fully martial. if that slider is just an lp bonus, it should be relabled as such, if its actually meant to decide a character being peaceful or martial it should show in skills they're allowed to take.

you realise it doesnt just affect LP gain, it also affects how much damage you do ( martial being 20% more, peaceful 20% less ) so it DOES affect it, albeit maybe not as much as it could

death/life does the same thing, just with death you do 20% damage to hhp instead of shp

peaceful should mean peaceful, not I'm going to rip your heart out and feast on it, I just have to take an extra hit to do it.

Basically all slider mechanics suck. Devs are aware of it and at some point we will probably see them being removed from the game completely or at least revamped and brought back in a completely new fashion.
