Weapondry Specialization + other items.

I was thinking of a unique concept that would seem fitting in this game.
Weapons should give bonuses in two ways:
a: Depending on your "title", e.g. Cheiftain, Lawspeaker, Hirdsman.
Hirdsmen would be more effective with a bronze sword, than anything else, and all villagers, when rallied up, would be better off with milita swords.
b: The terrain you're on. This currently would only apply to the Wind Blade, which should be made stronger on heath. That, or more effective against a mythical creature that only spawns on heath, and is slow to kill with anything else.

I also was thinking of new weapons that fit this time period (I know, mentioned before, just nagging right now):
Metal Hatchets: Heavy damage, slow attack speed, bonus to wood cutting.
Spears, 3 varieties: stone, bronze, iron
Daggers: Preferably used for theiving tools, can be equiped in the off-hand for a defence bonus
Two-Bit Axe

Other Items:
Alchemists Gloves: Gives a bonus to plant quality when harvesting, and when foraging for herbs.
Shamans Staff: If someone applies a bandage to you with this staff equipped, the bandage is much more effective. I'd prefer quicker healing.
Hiking Boots: Slight stamina loss reduction from jogging on forest terrain
Scribes Robes: Pysche boost

More Herbs, please.

I don't mind the idea of slightly more involved weapon mechanics, but dislike something as arbitrary as "this role in a village is better with this weapon"

Something more like weapon lengths, weapon speeds and slash vs thrust vs bludgeon would be nicer, and possibly some sort of weapon specific moves that can be trained for.

How about a crossbow? No love for the Crossbow? D: Would do a bit more damage than a ranger bow, but require more materials, such as:

1 metal wire?
1 crank
etc.

Also shoots a bit farther. /shrug.

I guess that'd be feasible. Would need basic mechanics to make/use. That way we can remove the fear of alts running around with Blaze-bows.
Bolts could be made from bone, bronze and steel.

Crossbows are cool I guess. Never been a big fan of using them myself, to freaking slow. However, perhaps having a higher STR (because cranking a crossbow takes an assload of upper-body strength) could make you fire faster?

Not Basic Mechanics to use. Crossbows were originally invented to be a general infantry weapon, as in so simple any man could use it. I'd say either make a new skill for it or include it with Millitia/Marksmanship.

My point was that something like that, if they were powerful, could easily be abused. Although, a skill after marksmanship, like Adv. Marksmanship, would be good.
Basic mechanics should still be required to make them though.

But of course.

But anyhoo, Longbows were markedly more powerful than crossbows. But that's just because English longbows kicked ASS. They also required a highly skilled user.

But yeah, something like "Crossbows" could be added as a second skill. Not so expensive as to make it not worth having, but not so cheap that and newby could get it within their first hour of play.

Also, we need to tiers of Crossbows: basic, and Advanced.

Basic is simply a bow on a stock with a trigger. No cranking mechanism, so their slow as ass.

Advanced has a crank, a trigger, and possibly a footloop to make cranking faster and easier. They shoot about half as fast a bow, but do about 2x the damage.

For extra points, INCLUDE THE FUCKING LONGBOW. Yew Trees > Wood Blocks > Wood Sheets + Resin = Yew longbow.

How about these?

I like the crossbow idea as well. Also spears. And flails. And hammers you can hit people with. And tridents. And anything else that can do bodily injury. :D

Uhm, no. A longbow had a draw weight of 180lb, max. Arbalests (steel crossbows) had a draw weight of up to 5000lb.

Heh, I was just going to leave that alone. Seriously, though, crossbows just get bigger and bigger until they become ballista and hurl spears.
