Locking gate with out a key

Postby GreenScape » Wed Jul 03, 2013 6:07 pm

Excuse me if that's was already suggested. I spend 10 mins searching though posts and haven't find any one suggesting this.

So the person who has a key to the gate can allow/disallow gate to be closed with out a key.

Let's face it, players will always abuse mechanics and use alts for holding keys, so why not to make things a bit more convenient?

The real-life scenarios:

* I want to protect some place I have CR to, so I wall it. I don't want to hang around with keys on me, when I have to walk out through the gate, but have no choice except creating new alt for a key storage...

* I want to go forage, but why should I take keys since there's and option to port to your hearth?
I hate you! Yes, you!

Gates should be passworded, for sure. I don't know if there's a topic on this, but "abstraction of gate key" I believe is one of J+L's development goals at the moment.

you have the option to build another CR outside the walls and warp to it(either from initial CR or the CR inside this new walled off area).

honestly if you have CRs you definintely don't need to worry about keys unless you're bringing animals inside your walls...

Imagine I want to protect CR itself from being destroyed, so I need it to be inside.

then build another cross roads outside that palisade to get out of it without the use of the key.

Then build a palisade around that one and make a crossroads outside of it so you can get out without a key.

CR teleportation is a trash mechanic that has become the norm. Working gates should be a reality and a bit of abstraction is a great way to get there. Gates are necessary for wagons, carts, roads, and most other nice things. It'd be nice to actually have a nice thing rather than the current keyalt + CR jumps that we have going on.

Not even for wagons.

Build a double gate, then you can use gates for wagons.
