Sea

Postby Agarrett » Sat Oct 31, 2009 8:26 pm

Ok, there is one continent with a huge sea that eventually leads to another, smaller continent and there are many islands scattered all over the place, some big, some small. Each continent is about 3 times the size of maplib and the ocean is about the size of the current map. (From what I hear the new map will be much larger so this is possible.) Plus there are a whole bunch of stuff in the ocean like whirlpools and sharp rocks that shrink your ship.

And there are a few different types of ships with small rowboats you can build and add to it as lifeboats. Unlike the rowboats, you are able to walk around on the ship and go into places like the captains cabin etc. To steer the boat you need to be at the wheel.

If combat becomes more common and the death penalty is lowered then we could have massive naval battles with cannons and boarding the deck of another ship etc.

What do you think?

By the Gods, you just made pirates possible. Thanks a lot, jerk.

Heh just kidding. That does sound pretty cool.

Cannons would be impossibly hard to make. You'd need like 2 iron bars per cannonball and like 10 per cannon. Oh gawd, grapeshot would suck to make.

But I would love to see a sea.

And maybe have a sea monster like Charybdis in The Odyssey, which was a creature that lived beneath the sea and created HUUUUGE whirlpools.

Black Powder?
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

If the map is made large enough to sustain an actual ocean/sea, then we'll probably have enough iron by then to make a decent amount of cannons and their ammo for the larger-class ships.

Medium ships (larger than rowboats, but not quite as massive as large ships) would just have to have their men fire bows, or perhaps primitive guns (An iron pipe affixed to a wooden stock with a fuse) into their enemy.

All that aside, yes. I want large ships. Preferably ones with fishing capabilities whenever fishing is made worthwhile.

You have to read through a bit to get to the better stuff. It warrants mentioning, though.

I would really like to see the next map be procedurally generated, look something like Peter's maps (aka relatively good looking), and be continents on endless sea.
