Walls

Well, that attack on Chernobyl has pretty much convinced me that something needs to be done about walls and str. Tunneling through 4 layers of the strongest wall in the game in less than an hour, without even having to build any large, cumbersome siege machinery, seems...silly. I think a lot of it has to do with strength and damage, which also has the effect of promoting long-term players to relative gods.

How about, instead of a flat "damage is 1/3 strength" system, strength affects damage on a curve, as with quality and so much else in the game? At first, newbies would see quick results, but as time goes on, it would take more and more strength to change damage level....

I've suggested multiple times battering rams that require multiple users over a strength requirement.
Loftar has said it will come at some point.

Yep, that would be good. But I think that decreasing the value of strength would be better than keeping it the same, upping wall defence, and adding battering rams. I probably should have named this thread after drinking coffee. It has more to do with strength than with walls per se.

Well here's an interesting idea: Battering ram can have unlimited people manning it at once and uses their average strength but gives a large bonus per person.
What this means is that 10 people weak people will be better than 4 strong guys, while it keeps strength in play it adds more power to numbers themselves.

I like this. two points though:
I dont think the bonus need be very large: the larger the bonus, the less incentive to have a large group
I also dont think it should be unlimited, just very high, like 10-12

my hope for battering rams is that they take multiple cycles of play to be effective, preventing the old "whoops, I sieged your town while you were asleep" issue.

I think trebuchets that take a certain period of RL time to build and can't be moved would be best.

As long as battering rams aren't buildable on a whim, are somewhat vulnerable to attack, move slowly (like crawling speed) and aren't suddenly overpowered when 15 people are manning it, it's a good idea.
Although, I wonder why Delamore made his idea about player number more than player strength.. ;)

maybe because combat is hilariously broken and a group of organized people can get killed by one guy? And ofcourse one guy should not be able to be a siege weapon on his own.
