Starting learning curve too high

Postby zlajo » Wed Jan 29, 2014 12:31 pm

I just started this game, and while i do know that there is more behind what i saw, i want to say that the most bothering thing is that the learning curve at the start is bad. The tips are vague, skills aren't well explained how to use, besides that real life logic doesn't work ( tried burning a frog at my fire place to eat something, but it didn't work) so im not sure how people have to get the hang of this. Even looking at the forum posts "how to" didn't help much. A game that is good from beginning to end should be easy to learn, hard to master. Meaning that you get the hang of the basics very fast, but that the further you go learning it, the harder it gets and the more skill it requires. Besides that the games controls aren't going very smoothly i recommend to make it more new player friendly ingame ( not survival, but in ways of giving basic information about survival, how and where to use skills etc). I find the game a pretty big mess atm even if i have high hopes for it in the future.

You're using the default client. Get Ender's client.
Also, read the wiki: http://www.ringofbrodgar.com
I think the game was easy as fuck to pick up.

If you're having trouble beginning, then you don't stand a chance at being a long term player.

Thank you for the advice, it will definitly help me find my way around. But next to that, isn't it also your opinion that a good established game should not depend on the player getting hes information form forums, wikis, etc, but actually direct from the game? Im just thinking this should be improved greatly in the near future.

Ps. at Arcanist: if thats so, then it can't be helped. Maybe the fault is in me, maybe it is in the game. If it is in me, then none except me can change it. If its in the game ( something that can improve it) then i higly recommend to look into it and improve it in any way it can. A higher player base is never bad i guess.

Because it's a hobby and not a product.

Try it to play a bit longer btw. isn't it trial and error till success in most games ...

You prefer rats borka?

and i think , while yes its got a high learning curve , it makes it all the more rewarding once you do start to progress and make a village or palisaded hermit home , there is also a wiki inbuilt in the enders client

For me the learning process was fun. It was tough and it took a lot of clicking back and forth from wiki to game. That just made it more worthwhile and rewarding imo. Be patient and accept it as part of the game. Good luck!
