Different Backpacks

Postby Raephire » Wed Nov 18, 2009 8:48 pm

- Backpacks

The typical ones we have now

- Farm baskets

Larger than the typical backpack in terms of content, ideal for fishing, farming, and construction- Prevents jogging/running and has attribute debuffs. Like walking around with a chest on your back. - Requirements to make? Straw, Cloth, and Leather.

- Quiver

Same as we have now

- Survivalists Pack

Like a farm basket only designed for the hunter in mind. It is a backpack/quiver in one. It could require leather, silk cloth and normal cloth.

I'd prefer if seeds just stacked. Maybe just up to 8 seeds a square or something. Same with feathers, when it comes to it.

I'd accept averaging out seed quality in such a situation- and that does kind of make sense, or at least, more sense than averaging coin quality.

I also like the fact that one has to choose between carrying space and arrows. I don't think that should be lost.

If you want to add more storage space, I think that the keychains and such are a better idea.
Surprise.

I figure that if you pour three handfuls of seeds- one really nice, one so-so, and one terrible- into a bag, then take out three handfuls, you won't get the same sets of seeds, but rather three handfuls that are pretty much equally so-so.

In that case, you might decide to keep your best seeds separate from the rest, which again makes sense.
However, from a technical standpoint, it appears to be possible to make a Quiver remember all the arrow Qs that go into it, so it can be done that way.
Surprise.

If you make bigger backpacks that allow you to move across all terrain at walk speed, then doesn't that make chests redundant?

The current packs allow you to carry an awful lot of stuff, the only reason I ever want to carry more is when I'm harvesting, hunting or transporting, in these cases I usually travel with a boat/cart full of chests/cupboards.

i dont particularly care one way or another about the packs, its just that averaging the quality of items in a stack is a stupid idea

The only one I'd ever use would be the one with the quiver built in. But I'd rather just have a damned hip quiver.

Assuming the bag is at all jostled and stirred (which in transport it generally will be), that makes complete sense. Seeds and small particulate matter would be more like liquid than solids.

Coins are only different in that they're not as heavily stacked as seeds. My idea of a stack of 1 coins is that it's one coin, however my idea of a stack of 1 seeds (all we have in the current implementation) is actually enough seeds to plant a square meter of plowed land.

is it possible for you 'people' to - at least once - ignore 'realism' where it is detrimental to gameplay

and not make special exceptions for some stackable items "where it makes 'complete sense' to do so"

"haha yes lets lower quality of items when you stack them together, making the entire feature relatively useless! haha but only certain items! whee how fun~~ check the wiki to find out which ones are safe!!1"
