Dead Bodies

Postby Chakravanti » Sat Jan 09, 2010 4:17 am

<Chakravanti> oh that's a great idea
<Chakravanti> hanging dead bodies from trees =)
<Chakravanti> and poles
<Chakravanti> increase if it's your claim
<Chakravanti> decrease if not
<Chakravanti> 'happiness' should be 'morale' and affect combat somehow
<Chakravanti> dead bodies on the walls and trees outside a base would be a defensive measure affecting morale
<Chakravanti> Combat stats of the dead bodies would determine the effect that dead body would have in a given radius
<Chakravanti> enough to prevent alt abuse
Well what is this that I can't see
With ice cold hands takin' hold of me
Well I am death, none can excel

bizarre. anyways. why would it involve claims and not, say, something like kin and/or beliefs

Morale effects either health, stamina usage,
damage modifier, or speed.

Honestly i think speed would be best.

Kin or ancestor's bodies add on to the effect
and it only stacks to a certain point if at all so
people can't grab secretz countless bodies and
toss them on a wall to make an impenetrable
fortress.

Because if I post bodies on my claim then invaders should be demoralized. As it is, raid advantage is to the offense and that needs to change.

If you're marching up on an enemy's village and there are dozens of dead bodies hanging from trees or stakes, how on earth is that not demoralizing? The implications are clear. The enemy you are about to attack has slain and hung the bodies of these people as a testament to their strength. It's intimidation. WHich is an attempt to demoralize your opponent.

man you are just not thinking this through

one might expect raiders to be somewhat accustomed to the horrors of battle and townsfolk to fear such a gruesome sight and the list of why this doesnt make sense just keeps going on.... and no way would this only affect combat mechanics

if a Morale system were to be implemented at all (which is what this suggestion really is) it would be more appropriate with many different factors, like kin and beliefs and actions and stuff. not simply something shallow and juvenile like "HA HA look at us string corpses on our walls HA HA HA we are mighty and powerful fear us!!" it should affect chars different based on kin and ancestry, it should affect martial and peaceful and barbaric and civilized characters differently, there should be abilities linked with charisma to raise morale and inspire fear, etc

Well I agree that it shouldn't affect the combat system directly. I also agree with the later. Certain credos might be immune to the effects of demoralization.

I just think it would be awesome to hang the dead bodies of of powerful people I've slain Outside my village and have it have some meaningful impact upon invaders.

adding Morale would be like giving characters personalities, which might be interesting but isnt something that should be implemented quickly and cheaply like this suggestion

that sort of mechanic calls for thought and depth

I certainly agree with that. I'm not saying this be added now as any sort of priority. More of food for thought when carefully considering said systems as you say. ;)

Given the vague and unknown nature of said systems that will certainly be dependent on other developments such as combat i didn't want to suggest to detailed or worked out of a system. I just wanted to say 'dead bodies'. 'Cuz I was listening to....the dead body man. :o
