if you have found flax or hemp seeds (and this is very easy) you can easily get enough plant fibers for a herbalist table...
in the meantime you can use another drying frames.

The weirdness of it struck me especially at one time when I built a bow out of a nettle and a taproot. From the realism aspect, that's a bit hilarious. They should probably have to be processed in some way, such as having to be dried or spun and treated with something else or something.
I'm unsure how I like the effect it would have on the game mechanics, though. It would mean, of course, that it would be impossible (or at least much harder) to construct e.g. bows or ropes "in the field". I'm not sure whether I like that effect or not right now. On the one hand, it would be fun to have a prepare a bit more in advance to do stuff. On the other hand, one of the things I find fun about exploring is coming across various things and using them then and there.
Anyway, that's the reason why I'm not really bothering about the nettles or taproots until I've given that aspect of them more thought.
any ideas to speed up his thinking process in this case?

This!
Nasselsoppa maybe stored in jars and you can sip it via right click the jar like tea/water...
i think we need more food beside farming/baking, fishing and hunting to fill up our stomach!
every new player is a survivalist in the first place and becomes a farmer or hunter later...
and fishing is boring, more than hunting.
and if not as food maybe something for our "Potions & Herbs"-category?
