Stairs

It'd be quite handy if we could build stairs to get up and down the cliffs. Require about as much wood as a log cabin, as well as paved areas both above and below. Alternatively, maybe a liftable ladder. That way for those of us with property inset into cliffs, we can get up and down without having to run round the entire cliffs.

If getting around cliffs is so much of a problem, build near small cliffs.

Cliffs don't come in variant sizes, they're all about as tall as a house, making them perfect for stairs / ladders. This is a suggestion to improve towns, not to make the game unfairly easy. Stop retaliating just because I didn't agree with your lazy idea which lets you get an easy supply of water and totally kills the whole idea of wells only being buildable in certain locations :ugeek:

I don't see why not. There doesn't seem to be any paticular reason why this SHOULDN'T be done...but I hope the devs focus on more important things first. It would be a cool little feature to have eventually, I guess.

I think giftiger was thinking about the idea gameplay wise not realistically.
Canals and aqueducts would simplify things a little too much imo.
And I like the ladder idea, hoping for bridges as well.

I have been thinking of needing stairs as well. I built my homestead along a cliff face and as I expand, I have my grassland pasture on the upper level and my farm and buildings on the lower. I can run around the edge of the cliff (I wasn't that crazy), but it would be nice to have better access between the levels.

One approach to avoiding the problems of invaders building stairs to get around cliff defenses is to require built foundations for the stairs on each side of the cliff before the actual stairs are built.

Oh, and please, make the stairs with no metal requirements so they are available to homesteaders.

As opposed to just walking into your claim? Not sure I see the difference. Worst case scenario, you claim an extra square in that direction to claim the other side of the cliff.

Edit: If you meant use it to get over cliffs, bypassing walls, then yeah see the following comment. I think the original stairs idea is better than ladder. Require paved areas top and bottom, and for constructions to be built in both places to complete the stairs. That way you can essentially only build stairs between two areas you already have access to.

This is what I had in mind, yes. Which is why I'm not 100% on the idea of ladders.
