Change locks

Postby ardjun » Tue Apr 20, 2010 6:36 pm

In case it happens that keys fall in wrong hands there should be a possibility to change the locks on gates.
Otherwise the only way is to destroy the gate and build a new one.
There might be owner to each gate who can change the locks of them.

What would be the purpose of stealing keys then?

If you are fast enough you can use the keys before owner changes the locks.

Why do we have gates and locks. We might just keep it all open so that anybody can take everything.

I agree, there should be a way to change locks. It should be rather expensive, so people cannot do it on a whim.

It should also only be available to people who have a key.

Couple problems with that.

1) Anyone you give the key to can change the lock and become the sole owner of the gate. On the other hand, if you don't need they key anyone could do it.

2) Completely worthless for someone who lost their key. It's not unreasonable to say that someone wouldn't have a spare key since it requires wrought iron and there's no reasonable excuse for needing a key to remove and replace a lock. Also keeping that key on anything but an altvault is usually considered an unnecessary security risk.

I have a feeling this is a really exploitable idea. Vote no.

remove keys, use permissions

having a worthless gate is ridiculous, even moreso if they take out teleporting later on

Gate on a claim? Only those who have building permissions on the claim can change the lock (no, vandalism doesn't apply here). Not on a claim? Tough luck, hope you didn't have your key copied and the lock changed while you were gone.
