Earthquakes, Mine scrambling

Postby Nigra » Sun May 02, 2010 8:56 pm

The idea is that every few real time weeks an earthquake would happen in a random supergrid. This earthquake would have the following effects:

Beforehand, several rumblings would give a warning about the upcoming earthquake
High Chance that existing mines would collapse, and have to be reprospected and rebuilt
Small chance that existing mines would collapse and vanish completely (Unless you took the chance to bail out when the warning rumbles occured, you are fucked.)
Small chance of new mining spots appearing randomly

Also, unrelated, a temporary reduction of LP gain when smoking cured hemp pots. Just because.

Disasters in general would be exciting.

Interesting way to reshuffle mines and keep a need for exploring them, I like

Yes rebuilding village after village and walls after walls seems like a wonderful way to spend ones time. Just so some clueless noobs get the illusion they might actually own a mine someday. Dumb suggestion is dumb.

Or you could, you know, not do that. With the upcoming wagons and horses transporting ore from a mining outpost seems quite viable. Don't be such a lazy turtler.

Lemme see, every few weeks (I'll assume three) 1 in 36 supergrids gets hit by a earthquake and loses it's mine, but most of them can just be rebuild. That means there is a 1 in 36 chance of getting hit by a quake and a smaller chance (I'll assume 25% most likely lower) of not being able to rebuild. This means that there is a 4.25% chance of losing your mine for good once in RL year. GTFO avu.

How about a plague where your con = your random chance of survival.

And meteors that can randomly destroy your house.

Locust swarms that randomly eat all your crops.

Cutting trees has a risk of a tree falling on you and killing you.

Drinking water has the chance of giving you parasites.

HHP does not recover.

Bears kill.

Already planned.

Well, rats certainly should. Why else would you want to domesticate the (completely lethal) lynx to keep them away? They should eat your supplies of food, too. Those that haven't already rotted, that is.

Interesting idea. I hadn't though of it. Until now. We're already discussing another mechanic not entirely unlike it, though.

And here I was going to make a post about 'that sounds like a list of things not to give jorb ideas about' and lo and behold0 (even though it was loftar). And I thought bears killing was the only one planned.
