Wildcats > Tame > Cats

Thoughts on the further development of Haven & Hearth? Feel free to opine!

Wildcats > Tame > Cats

Postby Avalik » Thu Jun 24, 2010 5:12 am

I read somewhere that wolves > tame > dogs were being implemented soon and dogs would protect your property from intruders, so what about edit: wildcats > tame > cats? (used to be cougars, wildcats a better choice).

I'd be stealing the idea from Harvest Moon, but the usefulness cats could have perhaps is bringing back rarish items once in awhile. Just right click your cat and "receive gift" every 24 hours, maybe sometimes it would just be a rat, but othertimes something like a river pearl or q 200 bar of metal, or something. Maybe depends on how well you feed your cat.

Or maybe having a cat in your inventory increases your stealth by a certain number of points? You know, what with "cat burglar" and all.

Or alternatively having a cat on the property decreases an intruder's stealth by so-and-so points...

Or maybe all of these things! :)

Opinions, critiques?

Two questions for you:
1)Where you pretend to meet a cougar?
2)How much rare items had yer cat brought to you IRL?
This game pretends to be realistic. Or semi-realistic. Anyway, bad idea.

Lynx over cougar, pet cats would also be cool.
Both have been suggested before.

Not so keen on the random awesome item, however having them bring you dead rats and useless crap would be amusing and enjoyable

tehe, hey i love cats, but honestly, they are pretty useless

i would like to see a kitten one time carrying around a BAR of gold :D
well then you could also implement "cat armour"

but to be serious, they could be eye candy or a status symbol, so really hard to catch or tame, or really rare

Why not just tame cats from wild cats? Makes more sense than taming lynxes (you'd have better luck taming a bear).

Petting one's cat could give Wyrd, depending on q of the cat. If Wyrd doesn't get implemented in near future, maybe have it give a Psy boost (for crafting those world domination plans).

loftar says wyrd is gone.

Domesticating a large cat is a ridiculous idea, in fact domesicating anything larger than a bobcat is very unlikely to happen. There have been stories of raising some from babies and having them away from their parents but it's simply never happened, not to say it can't, but you it just hasn't. We've never tried because they're simply too large and powerful for us to rightfully domesticate. You can give the illusion of taming whatever you want, but to actually tame such a beast is crazy.

This should go right out the window with bear taming ; Spawning Lynx would be nice though.
