multiple login thingie

currently if you log in the game and then log in from another computer with the same account - authentification server tells you to go fornicate with your own handsome self

wouldn't it be more logical to do it the other way around, that is, to kill the older session and create a new one? Most MMOs I tried work like that.

Coincidentally, that very suggestion has been playing out as a massive exploit in Mortal Online for the past few months, as players log in from a different computer/instance to force their old one to log out during combat mode and pvp. I don't see a problem with just logging out, if you are doing it legitimately it only takes 1 second.

as far as i understand. HnH doesn't despawn your character if you log out during combat, so no possible exploit there

the idea is that if someone phishes/steals/whatever your password and logs in with it - you can at least do something

also i like to take my laptop to the toilet with me and sometimes i forget to log out on my desktop, but that is of course absolutely besides the point, all i care about is other players' security and convenience

On a related note, Lofar has mentioned the possibility of having multiple computers logged into the same account.

multiple users of the same account playing at the same time with (obviously) different characters sounds like it would be cool, specially for loners who want to spec and/or fool their neighbors.

And your own "haven while on the pot" convenience.

This sentence made my entire day.

Normally, allowing one account to be logged in multiple times is a bad idea, but since multiple accounts and running multiple instances of the game at the same time isn't actually against the rules in HnH, it wouldn't really matter. Of course it may not be a trivial thing to implement code-wise, and there are far more pressing issues.

As for security, it doesn't really matter either way because if an account password is stolen, the "hacker" can easily change the account password on the HnH website to avoid being logged off by the original owner.

On the other hand, as long as the original owner's e-mail account isn't cracked as well, he can always use the password reset function to wring himself back in control of the account.

This one?
loftar wrote:1. Yes, it will. The only problem could be if your router is buggy and does not re-allocate duplicate port usages. Seeing how the probability for port collision is low, though, that shouldn't be a problem anyway.
2. No, certainly not.
3. Yes, definitely. The only thing it does not allow in that regard is connecting to the same account multiple times simultaneously, for obvious reasons. :)
4. No, certainly not.
(I highlighted the not part.)
