Scrub sure, but full-blown forests actually have very little undergrowth, as the canopy blocks most of the sunlight from reaching ground.

That's only true for some types of forests. I've been in a lot of Australian bushes where the canopy isn't heavy enough to block all the light, and mobility within that bush is severely hampered.

I have no idea at all what germanic forests would have been like though... If it's all pine trees then don't the needles basically kill everything that's not a pine tree?

Don't know about Schwartzwald, but here in Balkans there's very little undergrowth in forests, which are mostly beech, oak or spruce. I think these types of forest are fairly typical for Europe.

there are many types of forests. i have no idea what climate h&h is going for, but undergrowth would be neat to see

There's heavy undergrowth on edges of forests though, so we can have both.

not sure why you are arguing against including more diversity in the game

I'd also like to see swamps become more like wetlands, for example.

Sorry for leaving that impression, I'm certainly not against undergrowth. But I'd like to see relatively accurate diversity, so I'd prefer it if undergrowth was more prevalent near clearings and forest edges and in new growth forest, while deep old growth forest remains mostly undergrowth free.

i hope we come to see many types of biomes and that not all forests or swamps are treated the same

even grasslands could use some love to keep them from being so monotonous
