Smoking meat takes 15 days if the maker of "Unreal World" included that with their "realism".
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

I thought smoking was similar to drying in that it was primarily a way of preserving the meat as opposed to getting a particular flavor into it, the flavor was just a happy accident

I really have no idea. I just know that things smoke for long periods of time. And the smoky flavor is definitely a plus :) .
