Dogs are probably the most important domesticated animal; it's a little weird they're not in yet.

I would really like to see this. I'd love to be a dog breeder.

I want to be an animal breeder period. Gonna breed me some lynx or something, you'll see, you'll all see.

In order to see dogs done true to form (and on a model that would allow further domesticates to be added relatively easily) there would have to be a few additions:

1. An ability to control an animal in combat (both for the purposes of war and hunting.

2. An ability to tether an animal to an area

3. Allowing that animal to interact with scents as they are created, and react aggressively.

what else?

If dogs are breedable, i could imagine one of the "quality" parameters being a detection radius.

(and i'll take ANY excuse to get a tether/hitching post object into the game !!!)

Would this be easier to implement if the scents were used directly on the animal, sort of like a bloodhound? Or do you intend this to be the mechanism by which your tethered npc pet/guard would respond to threats while you're logged off?

and on a side note.... i look forward to the day that i can go out raiding small settlements with my band of ferocious war-cows.

I was thinking of when you are logged off. With that said, it would have limited utility; all it would take to defeat the tethered dog would be snipe it before you step on the claim.

Dogs should have dog houses for protection against snipers. They should only come out if they can path to an intruder.
