Going slowly back to your old ways ...

Anyway, other than the previous noted obvious problems ... do the math.
stone mansion = 600 straw = 9x9 tiles.
Straw basked = 9x9 * 10 = 810 straw. and thats if you grid stock them. (whiteout grid use you can probably up that with at least 50%)

Some straw bale item sound nice. But ... there needs to be a additional benefit for the finished item itself. Or this item is probably only going to be used as construction sign storage unit.

You are right, my idea for the whole concepts is:

* construction
* liftable
* size = 1 tile
* can feed the animals with less radio and duration than food throughs
extra* can be buided with a string and a variable quantity of straw between reasonable min and max limits, that would impact in the feed duration

i dont know if it needs to be liftable. Cant see someone actually lifting a haystack, not without most of it falling around his/her ears

Just take it and dont lift it over your head. I think the ingame option for lifting does not necessarily mean you have to be with your arms extended upward, that's only an animation.

Like the alternitive animal feeding feature.

Just brain storming a bit.
- if you can add straw to it when its build, and a significant amount at that. It make sens to built it.
- if you need to build it, lets say, it will cost 1-string and 4(max*)-straw to build. there is a direct reason to build it. (*none refundable items)
- imagine there should also be a way to extract the straw again.
(but I don't think a straw bundle should be a re-usable item.)
- two stage process perhaps:
- - Build: add only until full, none liftable at this stage.
- - pack: finalize bundle, no more adding to it, becomes liftable, and allows straw extraction. (extraction of last item destroys the item.)

Depending on the amount you can stuff in a straw pack it might be worth to trade, or just transport, large quantities of straw this way.

(Preferably directly usable with Stone Mansion. ;) )

1+ to those ideas and OP.

So you make a bale of hay, and then stick it by some animals and they eat it?
Sounds cool.

And a bale of hay doesn't take up much place? And paved ground, i never saw someone with a big settlement and a big amount of straw without stone or grass land in his settlement. And no one can click build if the sign is in your stone mansion.

Not everyone, including me, has the room to build a stone mansion in their settlement. My whole ground is covered with everything, and right now I already have a timber house fully filled with straw. Not the most delightfull way to store stuff.
