From what I know about the crafting recipes I'd still end up using the axe due to the higher quality. I'd be happy to be wrong about it though.

it wont be that much diff, you talking about bear only here, since the Ck can hit q 140, whats the q of a Stone axe for skinning and utchering, 160?

Well, if it's just cast iron you can spiral it to q180+ so if you were really into spiralling, they'd be nice but no one would ever sell them for anything short of a fortune.
