So a player who stole something would prefer to be murdered for a petty crime? How much time do you lose in death compared to sitting inside the prison walls actually EARNING LP during your sentence? It wouldn't be for everyone, but I think that if given a choice between Death and a few hours a normal person would choose losing a few hours.

Ahh, but it is easy to break outta prison. Ever think of the ability to transport to Hearth Fires or Villages?

Edit.
Then again, I am a roleplayer typa guy, and that wouldn't abide to my style.

Or just murdering everyone in the prison and walking out.

You would have to move your hearth fire to the prison cell. As for walking in and murdering everyone... That's part of the fun isn't it? Like any prison it would be designed to be difficult to get in or out, and there would be plenty of armed guards.

Maybe 8 hrs of logged off time, not logged in time?

A kind of "ban" if you will.

PUT HIM IN THE STOCKS!!!
and whatnot.

ps; rotten tomatoes, that is all.

You're missing the point. This isn't a server regulated system. This would be fully player ran. Logged in or out your character would sit until his sentence is up. You are there willingly to keep from losing LP. There would be plenty to do within the prison walls so that your stay wouldn't be a complete waste of time. It would allow for deeper roleplay, and allow the Ranger guilds to have a purpose besides murdering the petty criminals. It would be for roleplayers only of course. No 1337 would even understand the concept.

yeah, roleplayers, that's exactly what we need more of.
