i'd like to see giant monsters in games but only if fighting them actually means you are fighting a giant and not just chipping away at the toes of an oversized hitbox

Real monsters should pose a real threat to communities on the fringe of civilization. On the other hand, if there were a small chance that creatures in Mordor could spawn as a "dire" version, and drop a superior version of the normal drop, it'd make Mordor even more threatening and give people a reason to hunt out there besides LP.

I was thinking that they would free roam around Mordor, and maybe wander out into the more civilised areas of the world every once in a while. Also, Maybe have so much strength that you /would/ need a twn to take 'em down.

As course, being over powered means the risk of the Permadeath would scare people away. So maybe... If one kills you, you respawn at the RoB? Just a thought, because you'd need expendable legions of Hearthers to take 'em down.

Not if we focus on bloodlines instead of individual characters and allow for epic characters to be developed. So even though you might be a mere grunt following some hero-to-be who's off to fight a dragon and get killed in the process, your reincarnation would get some perk for having an ancestor that traveled with a hero to fight said dragon.

A bit divergent, but maybe if a monster kills you, there would be a brief period in which a healer could come revive you, so you wouldn't necessarily have to reincarnate.

The fact that the healer would have to go up to the dragon takes us back to my point. =/

If the dragon wanders, and the period is at least an hour or two, then it's only a possibility, not a fact. Still, the healer would probably want bodyguards. Giant/powerful beasts might also move a bit slower to give people a chance to run away (though it should be a choice made at the beginning of the encounter).

Giant monsters should have special combat systems, something like targetting body parts instead of the full body. I've seen multiple bodies working as one before, in other games.

If you manage to cripple the mega-beast's leg, then next time you encounter it, it will be slightly slower and have scars all over said part.

That would be a good idea, and maybe even parts that can be cut off.
Like if you manage to some how cut off its tail, you can harvest that for a mini reward if the beast some how manages to escape.

Would that be a new ent sprite?

Random thought for ents if you haven't already figured out how they work: Ents could be a rare occurance in forests that show up when you start chopping a tree down. The only way to use any wood in the forest is to kill it, otherwise it will just keep attacking whenever you try to chop down a tree.
