Having studied college-level environmental science, I too would like to see more realistic geography.

Right now we have:

Deciduous forest and coniferous forest, which are both great themselves, but the placement on a large scale doesn't make sense. There's a much higher concentration of coniferous forest in colder areas, specifically the north, and right now they're spread evenly.

Grasslands suffer from the same placement problem. I usually find them along rivers when in reality they are found far away from sources of water and humidity.

Heath and moor are fine. I encounter them inland and along small rivers which is good. Grasslands should get the same treatment considering they're all the same, just with different soil.

I'm stumped by mudflats. If they're trying to be a mudflat, they're doing it horribly wrong. They should be found near marshes and at the mouths of rivers in a delta.

Swamps are found inland. That is just ridiculous.

Thicket is perfect.

Mountains don't make any sense at all. They don't just form randomly.

What I would like to see is a total revamp of the generator. First, continental and oceanic plates would be randomly generated with direction. Then, mountains and large seas would be generated based on this. Then, rivers would originate from these mountains and make there way to the seas and finally the terrain would then be generated with latitude and mountain placement in mind. For example, if the only source of moisture nearby is a sea blocked by a mountain, then the terrain would turn into desert.

It would be nice, of course at the same time you'd have to start making things that work with new resource limiters as well. Maybe mud houses and the like?

Yes, please! This is exactly what we need.

Really like this idea, but I'd like to see more specialization in regions, in other words things you could only find in one region of the map, like a certain type of bird needed to make a certain type of hairdress could only be found in the SW giving that region an important trading item or bears in the northern part of the map having a white coat making northern bear capes a status symbol in the southern part of the map.

Such regional specialization in flora and fauna would do much to diversify the world economy in later stages of the game, I think.

I wholeheartedly agree with Acanthus, it would be very fun to have things such as goats, ring neck pheasant, Horses, yak and other varieties of animal as well as plants out there in the world. Also, why do we not have dies yet?

SPRITING NIGHTMARE!!!

I'd like to bring into focus Hexen for ps1, if you will.

Play it

You'll cry at the terrible way they deal with a firstperson sprite.

The game is set in a northern european climate. Devs have said they would like climate differences to a certain degree, but stuff like jungels or deserts is not going to happen.

What about a non-random section to the far East of the map, that could be a billion times worse than Mordor, and filled with ice and snow.

We shall call it Russia, and anyone whose IPs say they're from the area will automatically spawn there.
