I think it would be very cool if there were seas as large as super grids or larger, though I think that it would be nice if their costs were more interesting than the current sea.

Somehow, I suspect that a few people may not have got the gist of this idea.

Clarification: The main gist of this suggestion is to have an entire cardinal direction devoted to generating endless sea*, with islands and such.

I got that, but somewhat dislike it. Having just one direction be sea seems somewhat bland, however having seas be as big as the current map (ie, as big as a super grid, much bigger than the current sea) I like. Provided that ships can move relatively quickly, they could be a very viable mode of transportation to bring people deeper into the map.

In that case, would it not be better to have the map generate water, and then add land? Our world is two thirds water, after all.

It all depends on how about you go about generating the map. I don't think there would be any significant advantage to generating land from water, but it depends on how they generate it. Having the world be two thirds water would be interesting...

Truth be told, I've been a (weak) proponent of this idea for quite some time, but for some reason, Jorb seems staunchly opposed to it. I haven't bothered enough to ask why, though.

What I meant by "generate water, and then add land" was that the Devs could make water the base terrain square, insinuating that there would be more water than land. It really should have been: "add water, and then generate land."

So, yeah. I just want more water, less land.

Great minds think alike! :P

I would like to hear why Jorb doesn't want something like this, I think it would be awesome.

Staunchly opposed is a bit of an overstatement. I'm not entirely convinced that the map should have defined features on a macro scale, that's all. I think it detracts somewhat from the world's feeling of endlessness. But I might be swayed.

Rather than having macro features defined by simply -x = sea, x = land, perhaps a very-large-scale jumble of continents could exist.
Surprise.
