YOU GUYS ARE RETARDED.

THE SUGGESTION IS SIMPLE.

BEARS SHOULD BE ABLE TO BREAK BRANCH FENCES.

THIS IS NOT COMPLICATED.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

Fences yes, palisades no. If someone goes through the effort to build a palisade bear trap, they deserve the bear.

1 - Bears should be able to destroy things same as players can, and I reckon they'll have a lot of strength (not enough to smash down a palisade wall quick enough
2 - Bears should recognise when people are reasonably out of reach (it would take them hours to smash down a palisade, so not worth chasing the player), in which case they switch to retreat mode until they're sufficiently far from the player and then de-aggro

Good idea. Improve the AI of the strong monsters ;)

If bears can smash palisades,

1. The bears spawn in the forests anyway, there's lots of trees, so you will make the deforestation problem worse.
2. Build palisade, get inside, bear wastes all stamina on knocking it down. (And if they have STR they should have stamina)

I agree that bears should be able to break branch fences, the open air itself destroys them plenty fast enough. Would it be reasonable for a bear to run away if it's being receiving multiple wounds yet dealing no damage?

Fences, sure, palisades, no. I doubt a bear could break down 300 blocks of wood blindly
One day I hope to start a village. It shall be called 'Fruit Town'
