Will there be preset music ingame, or will we have to use MML to make our own tunes?

MML can be sort of interesting - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_Macro_Language

Aah, the good old PLAY statement. I had no idea it has seen inherited use. :D

The idea is actually quite interesting. I'll most certainly consider it.

Hah, if you managed to implement that, with some sort of algorithm to generate what the player has to play, you'd have tons and tons of songs from mabinogi to play with. Too bad cheating is a major flaw :(

Also, I want the staff with the vines.

Whats with the concern over cheating? If you are speaking of macros, there are ways to counter that.

In Mabinogi, characters follow scripts written out by players in advance - if they don't have enough skill, you'll hear them randomly mess up notes.

The cheating concern was only about the "Lute Hero" idea. Such a thing would, because of lag, necessarily have to be implemented purely on the client side, and then one could just alter the client to tell the server that the player is playing "good".

I'm saying if mobinogi potentially uses the same mark-up system as H&H, they have a giant catalog of music that would work.

Come one, come all, come to the festival of the full moon and the Ring of Brodgar. Musicians bring your instruments and best music forward, and we shall party the night away.....who's bringing the beer?

^I want to be able to say that.

Hell yes, music! Do we get to do some rapid-fire strumming ala Dragonforce? (xD)

As long as music won't get benefits or anything cheating will be a minor issue. If it is exploitable for goodies, try to run two separate calculations on client and server? And if cheating is detected, your lute breaks? That would be affected by lag, too...

Actually, we've been considering adding a Guitar Hero-like interface to lute-playing, the well playing of which would actually grant benefits to characters in the audible area (the exact benefits depending on the song). If implemented well, I think it would be a heckload of fun, so that good bards for playing battle songs and farming ballades would be a great benefit to any group.

Unfortunately, the ease with which it could be cheated through probably means that the idea is stillborn, but it would have been fun.

But not a metric assload of fun? All these new measurements make my head hurt. ;)
