I can travel freely everywhere [although i am still insanely careful about rivers... those things scare me like nothing else].
And even for me its dificult to find all the resources i need.
..and that makes me rather happy?
I feel like i'm actually achieving something when i find a bunch of flax.. in the old world i could just find someone elses abandoned farm and WHAM i had every seed in the game... now i have to work for it. Even the simple things that i had almost forgotten like hunting for sheep, are all coming back. Compared to my very monotone life in the old world, the new world is full of both new and old challanges [a couple hours hunting for that goddamn mine]...
its a exciting time for me.
It's unfortuntate that some people cannot find a place for themselves in this world...
I cannot help but admit that it is simply because your character was unsuited for being thrown into the wilds.. [And thats how characters SHOULD be unless they spend lots of time trying to change that]
On the otherhand.. i recall travelling deep into mordor pre-ragnarok with a newb character [back when mordor was 1/2 the map].. it was ...extremely diffficult, i got knocked out a bunch, i travelled along the waterways ect.. but thats not to say its impossible. [obviously it IS impossilbe for a new character to travel across water, however you can even get to the east supergrid without crossing water.. so its not like you cant go exploring]
If you want to be a explorer of a new and completely wild world, you have to take risks.. thats what makes it exciteing.
I've never been closer to death then when i'm trying to cross rivers and staring at my stamina bar like i'm about to die and lose everything... because i just might. That's what makes what i find on the otherside of that river meaningful...

Getting away from the general case and into the personal - I'm sitting on my butt waiting for stronger members of my team to find things. There's nothing meaningful in that. And that's why I'm disappointed and bored - I wanted to be exploring etc., and looked forward to it - and as a mid range character I figured I'd be able to do it, within reason. I turned out to be wrong - at least, wrong when working with a large group.

There arent really any restrictions for chars >500k lp and 50 cons. I spend 10 hours running around searching for mines, found copper and tin (which are completely useless right now?). I can do this for an eternity as the rivers dont get wider and the animals dont get stronger, yes i got no probs against X piggies bears and foxes, theres water, apple and fish in the wild and i got ally the leather equipment i need. So basically its not worth settiling down without an ironmine, but trying to find one is so extremely boring. If i settled down now i couldnt build farther than tier 1 buildings, which dont give anything which i cant find in the nature (except fep food maybe).

So i really really beg you to put some more iron spots into the map.

What we need, of course, are high-level fluctuations. Places where the terrain is naturally level 5, and others where it's level 15, 20, 50... Something so that uber players can have a challenge without locking all the other players inside a tiny circle.
Surprise.

Well, the point of the civilization census is to make the wilds be less dangerous as civilization expands. Going out on your own to explore the great big world would still require either a party or a strong character to fight off creatures and swim where necessary. In some ways, its better this way because it encourages more cooperation between players and the actual building of towns. Its kinda like in other games, where in the first few levels you have to stay near the town simply because the world is just much too dangerous to fully explore.

I do think that the civ census should have a bit more of an impact on wildlife, at least enough so that everyone isn't stuck together in one tiny circle. At least for the first two levels of creatures (where they don't attack).

It is exciting and I'm enjoying it. I set two of my characters to follow my combat guy, we travelled along the rivers marking things on our map like Lewis and Clark. Made for slow going whenever I had to kill animals. Its neat scouting for resources for your homestead.
