only if few really is few and x is a pretty decent number

It depends what the devs think is reasonable. I mean... snaking is free, so I'd think it should be a fair number of tiles per shoring. Reviewing the idea 10 tiles doesn't seem unreasonable. And you could force them to be placed at a minimum distance apart so people can't abuse them to get ore mining abilities without using nuggets for it.

of course. the OP suggested 3, which seems pretty decent.

i would say three blocks for three tiles, then new shoring. that seems reasonable, or perhaps 4 blocks per 3 tiles, something in that area

In hindsight that might be a little unreasonable. Realistic yes, but the amount of lumber you'd have to haul for a prospecting tunnel would quite quickly become very large.

hmmm, your right.

it would get annoying to be carting all that timber, thing is, i wouldnt want to make it to easy, or to hard, its that trial and error to find the appropriate ratio, also, i have a thing for bringing realism into play, i dont like myself for that.

would it be more reasonable to say <shoring block req : supported tiles>
= 3 : 5

this also is probably not good butt just throwing it out there: could the shoring, instead of being the same as a support in the fact it prevents cavein's, could it just greatly lower the chances of one, this would help to further the prevention of abuse.

though its also really dangerous

Doesn't really fit the purpose. The idea is people want a safe prospecting system.
