The problem of course with trading for iron, is that most things a town with a mine could want to trade for, requires iron.
Fancy Cheeses? Cauldron needs iron.
Silk? Cauldron needs iron.
BBB's? Grinder needs iron.
Anything else would have to be high quality baked goods, which the town could already have coming if they also have farmers, which is very likely.

Most but not all. Then there's the secondary iron market... If I had a couldren and could produce silk and high quality tea to my hearts content, I'd probably build up iron at a faster rate than noob town over there, so I might trade some of my extra iron to them for their noob cakes and fish. Or even just for some labour to help put up fences, gather wood etc.

Seriously, every time you think of a way it won't work, try spending an hour or so thinking HARD about how it could work.

This thread is over a year old and doesn't even pertain the same game world. You'll want to ask this question in the How Do I? section and not here.
