It'll probably be drawbridges or nothing. Making bridges capable of blocking boats is just asking for trouble. Luckily ferries would probably be pretty easy to make.

That's easy. One problem is that boats should go under the tile. Additionally things on top of the bridge should collide with things on top of the bridge, and things under the bridge should collide with things under the bridge, but things on top of the bridge shouldn't collide with things under the bridge.

Some bridge ideas

Postby Onionfighter » Fri Oct 02, 2009 11:09 am

It seems that having both bridges and boats could present some problems. Here are some ideas I had:

Teleportation across rivers: like the crossroads, except limited to rivers, and no travel weariness.

Tall bridges of variable length: Essentially bridges made of two ends and a middle of adjustable length. They would be tall to allow boats to travel underneath.

Or bridges could just block boats. Many of them do in real life, anyway.

Types of bridges:
All rope bridges that cannot be crossed while carrying or pulling anything.
Rope and plank bridges (the kind people are always cutting in movies).
Wood beam bridges.
Brick or stone arch bridges.
A string of pontoons.

Also: It would be cool if we could build boardwalks over swampland which would allow the placement of structures.

How would bridges ruin a game like this?

Because some areas would be less remote? Hell, with enough determination/Constitution, you can get ANYWHERE even without the bridges.

I think he's being sarcastic. After all, the only people who you'd really care about rivers protecting you from are black-skilled theives. Of course, by the time anyone has black skills then they've almost certainly got the stats to cross rivers. The main group that needs bridges are newbs and cart-dragging traders, both of whom won't make much trouble.

Really, it's just technical issues that keep there from being bridges, as far as I understand it.

Been posted before, and you can get out of the first supergrid without swimming....why would you want to travel past it anyways? It's all level X.
You'd get mauled by any animal that walks by.
