If claim LP was non-refundable people wouldn't make ridiculously large claims.

People would just extend claims with alts. The 5 space gap would be annoying, but that would just be the way of things.

I posted the same idea three or four months ago as a solution to some problem that still is around. I still think it's a good idea. If you ask me, just dumping tons of LP into a claim to avoid death penalties is abusing the game mechanics and should be nerfed, anyway. The idea that it can resolve other problems is only bonus. I know it's not going to be a popular change, but one of the things that draws me to HnH is the fact it's so hardcore.

The fact is, a true claim will rarely be unclaimed, and won't get so ridiculously large.

The downsides that pops into my head at the moment is that LP Banks won't go away, but will get larger to offset the loss, and there will be an increase in the number of raider alts being trained up by a player.

The mechanics should already be in place to implement this. The code just needs to be adjusted to make it take effect.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

If you think LP banking is an abuse of the game because it lessens the impact of permadeath, then why not just argue for true permadeath, 0%refund, 0 way to change it, 0 loopholes. You die and you start completely over. Or are you really only against people not using LP they could have dumped into skills?
Honestly, I would prefer a limit on the size a claim can be, maybe based on charisma (And or int).

I honestly don't think this is that big of a problem. The only way I could see it being abused is for fighter type characters, getting high combat stats and killing yourself with enough LP in the claim to restore your old combat stats once you reincarnate so that you can instantly double your stats using einhera. The logical solution to that problem would be to make einhera replace your combat stats instead of adding to them.

It's mighty handy for vandalism alts.

And yeah, Kurundo, I'd prefer full permadeath, but I doubt we'll ever get that.

I don't even know why they call it permadeath with a straight face. It's death penalty + name change. =/ Well, I don't really mean to complain about it I guess. XD

That would be much preferable. Levelling that many alts + providing all the bones to cover the ridiculous areas currently covered by banks/swamp/clay/mountain claims would be a significant step up in entry barrier (which is all that is needed to solve the problem), and the 5 space gap would make it nearly pointless.

You want more claim size? Build fucking banners.

Just make it when u die, you current claim remain but its "worth" is based of your slider trad/change of when you died, if you choose to declaim it.

However you can still add more LP into it making it bigger but only the new LP you put in will give full returns while the "old part of the claim" will be based of your slider when u died.

That's a decent compromise.
