Some people form their own, others join one on the dwarves and thieves forum, and yet others stumble across them by accident. I'm going to say this now, the one thing that a village will never have enough of is farmers. You always need more labor to harvest the crops, plant them, and then feed the cows. Rarely do you need more crafters or things of that nature. I hate when a village of 6 people has 4 blacksmiths. It's silly and useless.

Depends entirely on the dynamic of the village, their nature, and how the village is designed. I'm willing to say it's about as likely as any other outcome you'll end up with in HnH. A reputation and basic game knowledge helps so people know they can trust you. Letting anyone into your village is a huge trust issue.
So go for it and hope for the best if that's your dream.

Without the theft skill you cannot take items from claimed land -- personal or village. If it's not on claimed land then go for it.
Stealing from claimed land leaves scents which can be used to summon you and kill you.

Of course. It's a good idea to experiment and play around a lot early on, honestly. Both of understand the system and to get an idea for better planning and dynamics.
Everything has its own little dynamic going on and the better you organize and set it up, the more efficient it is and faster it flows thus making your production of goods faster and your life better/easier. Protip: Storage space is a premium. You'll always need more and you'll always need it organized for ease of use.

All of us specialize in a few things more than others and have advice to give on them. There are Much better tree farmers out there than myself who could walk circles around my knowledge of trees. The same is true for cattle herders, traders, farmers, miners, you name it. So never be too worried about asking for help or advice on things and the multitude of answers we'll give on some topics. Go with what works for you.

This just reminded of the start of world 5. Everyone spawned so close together it was just ridiculous. Nobody could keep a rabbit pelt out to dry long enough to make a pair of bunny slippers, so everyone was taking off others' drying racks. Some people would be nice and leave a pelt on hoping it'd be finished for the person they took from, others just stole. Same went for about anything else you couldn't nail down (read store in inventory or a lean-to). At one point Jorb even came around and said something about "Haha! I've got Yeomanry! Try and steal my rabbit hides now, bitches."
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

FWIW: 1 supergrid == 40 minimaps [1]; also, pretty sure the current world (world 5) is 5x5 SGs - e.g., 200x200 minimaps. Big, but not as big as w4, which IIRC was 9x9 SGs...
