Personaly I've never had to grind baskets, picking the branches already gives LP, and you can keep picking them for LP until you get 1000, from there you can afford foraging> plant lore> Farming which is enough to get you started usually, or Pottery and just spam teapots for LP.

I'm not sure invulnerable trees would fit the game's theme. You should understand the permanency of actions right from the start. But you should start in an area with resources, so you can enact that permanency firsthand (and not merely be a victim of it.)

The City of Brodgar would be disadvantaged by the removal of the ring of brodgar.

If new players walk into brodgar there are trees they can use. They just need to be in a party with some current citizens

So newbies are magically going to conjure up the knowledge of how to make trees, and the materials with which to do it? I had to travel pretty damn far to find trees and flax that weren't on someone's property.

Party? Citizens? Brodgar? What do these things even mean to a new player? I've gone good long periods of play without even seeing anyone.

It's fine for H&H to be a sparring partner who's not afraid to inflict some bruises on you in order to train you to greatness.
It's not fine for H&H to flip you on the back the moment it meets you and repeatedly bash in your face with a steel-toed boot. You won't learn anything that way and you're going to leave as soon as possible.

The game can be hard and relatively unforgiving, but if it's completely inaccessible to new players there won't be new players. I sorta like multiplayer games, myself.

Brilliant idea. So let's get a noob player to find some flax, wood, and wood that's not claimed by somebody on the map, only for them to need to get the points to actually get the Herbalist Table research, and then actually be able to go get the teaplanter pots, which will then you'll need to hunt for a tree that hasn't been cut, only to have your tree die on the table, or be cut down by a jerk wanting some easy LPs.

I was lucky enough to have a neighbor to supply me with some seeds to start, and a few resources too, but most noobs will find the game way too overwhelming.

Ooops, my mistake. But still, the problem with non-noobs planting trees is that they plant them on their football field size claims, thus only allowing access to themselves, and not other players, because there will still be that jackass who cuts the tress down for LP.

There needs to be more starting options beside grinding wicker baskets.

there are currently 3 saplings in the unclaimed area between brogdar and the rob. plant trees for yourselves, but also plant in public areas. if someone cuts it down, plant a new one. you get about as much lp planting trees than you do chopping them.
