that is the last thing loftar mentioned about claims as far as i know. (timestamp = gmt+9)
i wasnt there when this chat took place, nobody asked him about it further and he stopped chatting there.
whatever the solution will be, devs already know this is an issue. we will have to wait to see how their idea works on Salem and they may use the same system or some improved one back on haven.
so, i dont think any more of our discussion on this helps for the time-being.

I agree that this is likely one of the things that will be backported into HnH. However, someone might just come up with a better way to resolve the claim issue.

The one problem will be how much difference there may or may not be in claims between Salem and HnH. Enough differences and there won't be an easy way to backport it without changing the claim system in HnH (which may very well get changed, too).

Thanks for a lot of the feedback, and yeah sorry this is a subject that has been discussed before, again I apologize most of my motive for this was a rant.

MagicManICT wrote:A solution to this would be to drop a claim of your own, but dont' cover the resource (in this case a well). Just put it close enough nobody else can claim it, either. Of course, this leaves the claim open to being revoked easily by a vclaim, but that means it's more effort than just dropping a pclaim with an alt.

This is a good idea, too bad it's too late for me to do this. Wish I thought of it sooner. :)

True, but also I've had grievances about personal claims back in world 3 as well. About a year ago wandering some of the interior SGs of World 3 (when decay was still around), you could really notice that a land was long abandoned, but yet that stupid pink forcefield was just as powerful as ever.

Claims need to be getting an upkeep none the less for the sake of decay coming back to the world. It used to be the case that uninhabited farms etc would revert back to nature eventually, but with the removal of decay on claims that is in the past. Bringing it back would allow a world to be a much more consistent and longer lasting thing. As much as feeding a claim a dream once a month would be enough to show you are still active.

I think this is a swell idea. :D

I like the idea of feeding the claim a dream every so often... Then you wouldn't have to navigate through all those abandoned settlements that have all those nice items you want.

Have more than one claim is needed with the actual resource system. Have higlanders claims is a problem, not only for who want to walk over it but mostly for the abandoned claim around that will never disappear.

A claim should decay when the chara not log in in a long time. Thic let people protect theyr resources and remove useless abandoned claims.

There are no other way to protect resources (if you don't want banner a whole grid like sodom), so i'm not so happy to remove easily an "unused" claim.

At last maibe could be that Every chara that have the permission of that claim, can provide to not let it decay. Something easy, anyway, guys.

Yeah, dream's would be annoying, just logging on the character/people with permission of the claim should be good.

Adding upkeep sucks because like back in the day with personal claim decay, for casual players whenever you would log on all your time was spent repairing all your stuff (it sucked and wasn't any fun). Any sort of upkeep system I don't see it doing anything different unless it's wonderfully designed.

Maybe if more quality resources were scattered, or they would deplete and generate in new areas every so often would be an option. Or another option would be lower the authority requirement to revoke claims so you could combat these LP banks or alt-claims. But then it might switch it over to alt-villages controlling everything, which is the same issue (although the resource requirements to make a village are more than a large sized personal claim).

Edit: this thread was really more of a rant on my part; an unclaimed q44 well which has been unclaimed for atleast 3 months now was just recently claimed by some prick. Of course over the past month I've though about alt-claiming it myself but I figured that would be a jerk move, so well my loss for trying to act "noble".

Another alternative would be claiming the resource, leaving a runestone with that alts HS - You could give people with "white" full access to the calim - Now I have not tested this, but by default someone is given the colour "White" so you essentially just stopped everyone from claiming the resource and everyone can now have access to the yummy soil/clay/water :)

If I can be bothered I might try it out and let you know.
I had a retardedly huge signature and have gotten this embarrassing replacement to show for it.

While a good idea in theory, this plan is full of fail. If you don't understand why, then you haven't been here long enough.

you can't change permissions for white, they always reset to off...

as for the original concept of this thread, I'd love to go mining without tresspassing. the closest cave to me(between my house and closest river to me) is on a small 5X8 claim. the owner of that claim hasn't been online in a long time, atleast since before I started playing. the crops are grown, land is back to forest ground and unplowed, cupboards are bare(I snuck in) its as if the place has pretty much never been lived in...but its still owned so I have to use tresspassing to get into the cave to mine.

I've had a thought that I've discussed with someone in global chat not long ago:
-player innactive for 2 weeks tresspassing is allowed, and natural resources such as soil, clay, water, ore and foragables can be harvested. no scents left for these and it ends when player returns.
-player innactive for 1 month land still owned but permissions for everyone, means anyone can go in and take/use whatever they want, harvesting crops, things from trees, containers, boats, and carts use of anvils ovens kilns and other such things. still no scents left. this ends if player logs on again before part 3.
-player innactive for 2 months land becomes unowned, and things start to decay...they get back the LP they spent so if they ever return(unlikely) they're only out of the items they had and can still rebuild.

in my personal experience any game I've had to leave for an extended period of time(whether just for a break, or because things piled up) I usually never went back. so once someone is gone for a while, chances are they're gone for good. in my opinion letting resources go unplundered because its 'owned' by someone who pretty much doesn't exist anymore is a bad idea...

So take a character over there, drop a village claim over the Pclaim, and revoke the privilege. 8x5x250=10,000 Authority. If you want to destroy the village totem afterward, great!
