The point of this proposal is not to make some sort of in-game currency, but basically to make it possible to try to make in-game currency by in-game efforts. It is nearly impossible, and it is challenge, and it does not make difference if it fails. Just someone may try to do it, just for fun.

Sooo....

What you're proposing is something we already have (a coinage/monetary system) and which you acknowledge, but nobody uses it because of the reasons I mentioned, and you completely agree with. So why did you post this again? Check these articles out: http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Coin_press, http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Coin

What can you possibly do to convince people to use the coinage system other than forcing the use of a coinage system in your trading? You too shall realize the fail of a coinage system when a barter system is fully functional. The only reason coins became a popular means of trade were because they were convenient for the people that made them and others were forced to used them to do business with the merchants. Coins are neither convenient nor can you force a majority of the player base to use them. (Maybe if you get a syndicate going, you can pull it off! I have faith in you!!)

 Definitely!

We can look forward to the coin system (along with many others) being improved as changes are brought into the game from the development on Salem. Maybe then coins will be easy to handle and be a popular form of exchange.

I agree, but I think that it should be the coinpress itself that does the minting (hashtag), rather than the player. Make a coinpress, a name box pops up when you create it, you name it, like DIS Dollars then it gets the hashtag ##KF5H3 for the number of that particular coinpress.

Also adding this.

It could be suggested before. But why coins now are just shiny pieces of metal without anything on them? It would be nice if we could mint SPECIFIC coins.
- When you build a coin press, you write the name of currency. For example Emurald.
- If it exists, you cant take it.
- When you mint em, coins become "100 Gold Emuralds", "100 Silver Emuralds" and etc.
- Barter stends are usefull now! You come to tradin post, sell a pearl for 50 'muralds, and buy something for them.
- Inflation, deflation, 30 Amuthests for 1 Emurald, and etc.
- Profit.

None of the above will make people touch coins for any real use.

the funny part is that he made all of these suggestions supposedly making coins more attractive, and never considered simply adding a wallet for the belt slot

Well, the challenge is to find a currency most people agree upon. There also should perhaps be some kind of "guarantee" for the coins value.
In the real world we had the gold standard, which based its "value" on the ammount of gold that was kept in store. In this game it seems that pearls are the most valuable item.
How about the biggest village stored a certain ammount of pearls and based on that issued a certain ammount of gold per pearl. From that we can derive values of silver and copper coins. We would ofcourse need to be able to stack coins. (Maybe unlimited stacks?) The last issue is perhaps what stands in the way of this becoming a reality.
