I thought botting (the bad LP kind) died with World 4. I bot farming but what other botting are you trying to stop?

Probably another person who thinks everybody runs a bot to log in and switch curiosities or some shit. Personally I don't know a single person who does that yet for some reason people think because it is possible that everyone is doing it.

This is a new thread, if it pertained to any of my previous threads it would be in them. I try to separate threads that are unlike.

I am not just asking this question in regards to HnH but for other games as well(including any i may be building). good design tips are always useful for a programmer.

This is the critiques and ideas section not the argument board.(might need one though).

Prejudice is not nice sabinati.

in this thread i made no connection between lp issues/ there is already a thread for that.

your still mad at me for that 1 post 6 months ago/ the one where you changed the name and i changed it back(here is a hint, discuss problems with the one you believe is causing it, don't just use your power to toy with them).

if your a mod and want control of a thread simply make a copy of it and remove the old one.

do you even read posts or just the titles?

What? How could you possibly come to that conclusion?

If anything I'd guess that someone in favor of the old LP system would be in favor of bots as well.

I quite agree. Good design should always be the goal of a programmer. There have been all kinds of empirical studies showing the cost savings of creating a good design. In fact, it's so important, that there are TONS of websites, magazines, books, etc. out there dedicated just to these concepts. Maybe you should pick these up instead of asking random strangers who may or may not know jack or shit about the subject.

As for stopping botting: you can't. It's just like trying to make the hack-proof computer or the idiot proof gun. Some is going to hack it and some is going to shoot themselves in the foot. You can make botting harder, but as previously stated, anything that will actually slow it down will tread on the usability for normal players.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

There is some degree of compromise that is acceptable. Gameplay that is heavy in user input is generally harder to bot. It's easy to tell a bot to press two buttons, it's harder to tell a bot to identify random spawns in the world. That same old argument. Realistically we're looking at a few areas we need to address to reduce botting: Farming, Mining, Resource Gathering, Combat, Construction, and Stat gaining.
Quite frankly I don't have an easy answer to fix it and it Needs to be a simple fix. If you make it complicated then it'll be too bulky to work around and pretty generally hated.
