Skeletons, Burials, and Skull Thrones
  • Player skeletons may be picked up and stored in your inventory as a 2x2 item.
  • Know how you retain a percentage of your skills/stats on death? Well now you only get half of that on reincarnation.
  • How do you get the other half? By burying your skeleton (or if someone else buries it for you.) (alternatively you get 100% of normal reincarnation stats when dying, and burial simply gives you a bonus on top of that.)
  • Skull thrones can be created, and upgraded. Each upgrade level increases the owner's stats 1%, and the resource requirement (in skeletal corpses) raises dramatically with each level (something like 1, 5, 25, 100, 1000.) Individual skeletons are still tracked.

So murderers construct ever more elaborate skull thrones for the larger bonuses, but this also makes them a bigger and bigger target for everyone they've ever killed, because everyone wants to get their corpse properly buried for the reincarnation stats.

Not bad, but the skull thrones need to have a deconstruct action of sort!
I want to bring a party with siege engines, break down the walls, kill the guards, and have the party members guard the door at my back while I rush across the trone room to tear down the evil skull throne and retrieve my honourable grandfather's noble skull for a proper burial (in a gold decorated lead case).

EDIT: ehh, read whole posts from now on, not just the upper 3/4ths

rewards for dying again - when you die you FAIL - no rewards for that, penalties only. I vote 'no'.

Well the only problem is, there can be cases where death ISN'T the fault of the player. There have been and can still be players who decide to run around and destroy people significantly weaker than them. Or otherwise some kind of deliberate attack. Getting destroying by some thugs while powerless to do so and getting further slapped in the face with a penalty for dying? Most people would just say "Fuck it" and wash their hands of that crap.
What kind of "FAIL" would you categorize that as? Walking around without 24 hour protection FAIL? Not having enough stats FAIL? Inability to escape FAIL?
Luckily, the more recent mass killer was due to bugs and the victims were reincarnated.

This isn't even getting into the immediate and painful retribution a thief or other criminal can get. While this is certainly a death caused by the player, the current state of affairs make it a little iffy. I don't really want to side with criminals, but it doesn't really seem like a FAIL to me when they're playing by game mechanics. It's not really easy for them right now, and even the most petty criminal can just end up getting swiftly and painfully executed (not to mention stealth being utterly broken, leaving criminals minimal defenses as it is). Heaping up penalties on them for dying with this current justice system would just result in no thieves or criminals anymore. Making an entire way of playing go backwards-stupid doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

Death shouldn't have harsh penalties, a nerf to stats and skills is enough as is. Although, death shouldn't really have any big bonuses either.

We need to prepare good travel to the underworld for our ancestors. I would like to see possibility to bury urns with food, bottles of wine, bracelets, helmets, swords, rare metal with my ancestor. It will make good feeling for me, that my family was fairly treated in theirs passage after death. And that I will not make them angry on me. Mounds and simple tomb for richest/noblest characters/families would be also awsome. I want just some LP for it, because I see it as my own roleplay enhancement. Curse to the treasure hunters and tomb disturbers!!

The endeavor to understand is the first and only basis of virtue.

I'm not a history buff, so I don't know if tombs or chamber type mass grave sites fit the era of the game's setting - but that would be pretty cool. Maybe something that can be built inside caves? With burial sites for skeletons that are placed in coffins (like racks?) and space to place urns etc. like mentioned above.
