The whole point of this game is survival from nothing - it seems silly therefore to start you off with all the mod-cons, lol, it's not about convenience, it's about working hard to survive.
As for the financial side - I don't wish to go into it again but cash shops in hnh is not the way forward imo.
guess I should have searched better, but never in any survival situation are you relying on nothing but your hands, if you're in a plane crash/shipwreck and lost on some deserted isle you atleast have the option to salvage parts from the wreckage...but I do see your point
You were thrown overboard by the storms that rocked the boat, which eventualy sank miles from where you washed up. There is no wreckage, you barely even have any clothes. You lay bereft on a sandy shore of a small island with nothing but a few trees, vegetation and rocks for company.
Once you recover from your shock and have had a look around you start to gather twigs to build a fire, night is approaching. After failing miserably to light a fire from a rock and a stick (it looks easy on tv) you huddle under some vegetation and fitfully sleep. The next day you start thinking of food and freedom, you fashion a makeshift fishing rod or use a sharp stone to turn a branch into a spear (jorb & loftar) and try to fish - again, this looks easier said than done.
You thought you saw light in the distance during the night but are not sure wether you were dreaming, either way, you decide on a raft. You make an axe from some stone and some wood - a week later and you realize your raft is basicaly crap and won't get you that far but you've learnt to fish now and light a fire, you've even managed to make clothing out of plants you've woven together with stripped vine.
Next step - a boat ......you're getting good at this and all the while gaining experience to produce better in the future ............
Therein lies the fun and achievement.

Oh, and btw, your boat sailed and you hadn't been dreaming, you reached a distant shore, there were lights, there were people! They ran to you calling out in a foreign tongue, some were naked, some had clothing made from animal hides and some wore long black garments and strange helmets, you thought they were priests, lol.
They pulled you from your boat, stripped you naked and took turns at hitting you 'til you died - you made out strange words like 'nab' and 'f....t' before passing into blackness.
You may also like to know they decapitated you and put your skull in a cupboard.
H&H isn't really about survival, it's about quality and paranoia
