Increasing the LP was just part of making mining an enjoyable part of the game, actual interesting features are another part but are the harder part of it.
Increasing the LP is a step towards fixing the problem.

LP increase would be pointless, make mines more interesting with more content

I also agree with Potjeh in that regard, and the same thing can well be said for farming. I think it is safe to say that the current revision of both of those systems, as well as many others, isn't the last. Also, LP adjustments in general feel a bit pointless since we're going to replace the LP system anyway.
