What I personally think needs to be done is have quoted images converted automatically to links instead.
I think it'd be a good way to organize posts, regardless of the usage of images or not. For example trade threads, tutorials, and thought-out C&I posts and topics could be more easily organized into collapsable sections.
However, the quoted images being links would be very useful.
