You can't honestly be comparing the concept of trading goods that you are able to make for goods that you aren't to having your character permanently killed, are you? Can you comprehend what a ridiculous argument that is?

I can understand feeling obliged to defend an argument once you've made it, but you should truly abandon this one. Take some time to think it over before you reply. Please.

I mean, trade goods for protection, which is pretty similar to trading for something you're not able to provide for yourself.

And what happens when another group comes and kills you? Or do you think you can pay off everyone in the world?

But yeah, PvP toggle wouldn't fit in the game at all. Best thing would be to let the rabble defend themselves to an extent. The current combat system makes way too big a difference between high level and low level characters.

A consensual trade is not the same thing as a mandatory bribe in order to survive (see: purchasing bread from a grocery store vs. blackmail, extortion, quid pro quo, etc...) It's obvious that your anti-logic barrier is stronger than I care to contend with right now. I made the suggestion. You're free to disagree, no matter how flawed or ridiculous your reasoning. I'll leave it up to the developers to decide whether or not it has merit.

This was originally a response to potjeh, but I believe it can address both concerns:


Pay for protection could mean a number of things.

A) Pay off the aggressor
B) Hire mercenaries to defend your property
C) Pay for a defense contract with another property

There could be a few more, but I've got to grab a bite to eat and I think I've adequately covered the topic.

Ah, that's just what I was waiting for. Mercenaries or cops can't be at your place 24/7, so they can't really prevent your death. All you can get is revenge, and that isn't worth all that much, considering it's very likely you died at full change and your murderer at full tradition.

True, yes, but the very possibility of soldiers defending your property can be quite a deterrent.
