Release Hafen on Steam for free.

Thoughts on the further development of Haven & Hearth? Feel free to opine!

I don't think haven would be a good fit for steam. The forum community here is too developed to suddenly be downgraded to the abyss that is steam community and discussions.

I think a small fee for a licensed copy of haven would be a somewhat better idea than taking a shot in the dark for donations.

We wouldn't have to leave our forums, people at Steam community can well... create their own community.

The problem I see with this is, for example games like War Thunder don't actively respond to feedback from steam community and encourage the player to actually use their forums for help or hope of getting a response for a problem or decent discussion.

If Haven were to be released on steam there would have to be knowledgeable discussion board moderators who have a good know how of the game as well as have a steam account, which some people like Loftar for example, do not wish to use/have, and there wouldn't be as much experienced and in depth help as there is on these forums.

Feedback and critique would largely go unheard, problems may go unsolved.

Yeah, because it's the money that is the problem. :)

Haha, yes, I'm glad we have such a civil and high-minded forum going. ^^

I -- uncharacteristically -- had an experience with Steam fairly recently, and I honestly have no major objections to it. I used to think of it as awful bloatware -- my previous experience with it -- but I am starting to come around.

I wouldn't rule out exploring the possibility personally, but I also can't claim to be enthusiastic about any sort of 3rd party involvement of any kind, and it's in any event very low on my list of priorities.

Steam is, for the most part, fairly unintrusive and a fairly decent way to get people to see your game. When you're looking to advertise Haven, it's a great option just to have more people glance by it. I have no idea what working with them is like though, but I imagine it can't be too nightmarish.

We won't merge the two communities together, people might taint the forums a bit, but hey, at least we have new people and are not stuck with the same people like jcole, chodeobesity, etc.

For the Steam Community forums, what I suggest you do is choose 5 good players from here (overtyped < as long as he does not include bob dole, amanda44, borka, grapefruit and etc. over at the other forums.)

i guess we have a lot of players here that have steam accounts that could moderate a possible forum at steam - but atm i guess we should let loftar and jorb develop - steaming can be done when ready to go

And btw. every HnH player can do HnH advertisement with his steam profile yet already ;)

yeah but if you use greenlight the game will be on the front page of steam. and people go crazy for indie games.
