Yet grown men drown in these things almost instantly. What in the hell?

Wouldn't a cable ferry or a bridge do the trick? My friend had serious issues with the maze and almost quit the game for good.

well after my tree production is set up im gonna use a bit of my lower ql trees for boats wich i will put around rob's rivers, and hope some newbies wil see them

Bridges are not that easy to implement and I guess boats do pretty much the same a ferry would do.

Boats can be sailed away, ferries would presumably be stuck where they're built. And if you give them high enough damblock and low enough cost, griefers won't bother with them.
