Changing the needed milk for butter is changing one single value and one picture.

It's not that much work. It's a new sprite that works like a rabbit or fish. Right click to slice/butcher. AL the mechanics are present and it has the added bonus of realism & aesthetics. I think your real objection is that it wouldn't affect bscb.

Also, I agree about the cost of upkeep vs. output on milk:fodder ratios.

Sure we can get better cows. SOmetime next decade. Seriously. ONe generation every other week. What's the aversion to more rapid development with a softcap? The effort inolved in getting and maintaining and breeding cows is...oh yeah..INDEFENSIBLE. So gettings decent cows isn't even worth it.

And make fence gates (fucking fucking finally).

This is probably a stupid question....

What do we need fence gates for? My hearth mate builds tons of fences and then she cuts the passages through them, closing them with unbuild fence sections. Of course this means that her gates cannot be wider than two squares but that is wide enough to let a cart through. And you do have to have an open square in your inventory to take the stick so you can open the gate and still be able to close it but this is no big deal either.

What difference would real gates be, other than looking better than a little signpost?

I'm curious how you would use gates that she does not.

So you totally don't see how one rightclick to open and one to close it is better than your workaround?

True, i consider bscb in my suggestion too. However the code for a feed button on mulberries, or a runspeed after item drop or whatever is there too, still it seems hard to implement those :<

You could also make butter a "liquid". Basically, 3.5l of milk give 1kg of butter. Then you deduct an appropriate amount of butter from the bucket (let's not implement yet another specialized container just for butter) when you craft stuff, for example 0.2kg butter for a cake or 0.5kg for a butter steamed bulb. All the code is already there, it's just the matter of having it use kg instead of l. If that's too much trouble, I don't mind measuring butter in litres.

Yeah, it kinda sticks out when you take other stuff that's in the game, but IMHO all such raw materials, like flour or seeds, should be like liquids. It'd make seed bags useful, if nothing else.

then again itd be nicer for them to wait on balancing FEP gains by completely changing what food gives what until they are also redoing recipes

one nice, big, cohesive change

My guess is that they are hesitating to "fix " butter because they want to add stuff like cream, sourcream and milk meing spoilt in containers (seriously, the one reason to make sour milk, cheese, sourcream and what not is that milk is not practically storeable).

As a quick fix though, how radical a change do you want?
I agree with the OP suggestion totally, and IMO it would be fine if 2 liters of milk made one butter (I have no idea about "realism" here).
