How you start out as a vulnerable creature scavenging for survival, and slowly progress into becoming either a feared warrior or a well-known trader(Or both). If you survive long enough to make it there, that is ;) .

Or, someone is completely unknown.

1. The fact that you need to eat and it is also beneficial to do so. I like the core of the FEP system.
2. The ability to do whatever you like when you like, if I feel like farming I go pick my scythe if feel like killing bears I can do that too, only fishing breaks down this aspect.
3. Barter economy.
4. Crossroads
5. 2D sprite based graphics

a man need only strike another to make him evil."

i hate harvesting my huge wheat field, however all in all i love farming! but more than farming i love baking :D

i love blueberry pie...
maybe some day there is a possibility to add Peach Pie or Pumpkin Pie ;)

and finally: barter economy > money
i like that money does not have the importance of the real life.
i mean all i have are 20 copper coins and i'm still alive, i'm not hungry nor thirsty...

I like:

1. quality system
2. farming/crafting things.. everything seems to have some purpose.
3. harsh penalties from death

#1 The Concept (Players providing the...well everything..)
#2 Crafting Everything you need.
#3 Creating Ties or Breaking Them with others.

Now to be completely honest here are the top three things I hate about this game.

#1 The lack of a Commercial Buildings.(ex. Blacksmith Carpentry towns/villages are filled with basically residential.
#2 The unpolished look. Some things are graphically beautiful while others are straight out of MS. Paint.
#3 The Map....navigating is a nightmare, and very random. Randomly generated is fine but somethings are related and should be organized accordingly.

To Sum up I'm literally obsessed with this game. For a Indie game amazing.

besides a lot that was already mentioned, i especially like the attitude j&l have towards controling/censoring the community. it has a great influence on the game as it gives us the freedom to pretty much do whatever we feel like, also supports the already very free way of playing. players have to change things they dont want (provocations, e.g.) themselves.

This is what I love about the game. There is no back-story, and there does not need to be one. We live in a virtual world completely defined by what we do, and animosities are derived not from some farcical "orcs have envied the dwarves for generations, and now has come the time for their bloodlust to RISE" crap, but from simple human interaction. We already have a fairly rich history...the glory that was Bottleneck, the tragedy of the massacre at old goonheim, the demi-god status of Blaze and Rift...and that is just from the old map. The new map has already given rise to a history felt more keenly by the players who started here than any MMO scripter could hack.

My top three would be

- The sandbox aspect, no set goals, missions or NPCs
- The quality of items, influenced by a lot of things. It provides for a feeling of accomplishment everytime you get some better stuff.
- The theme of the game. Including the abscence of LoTR associations.
